Artist Fee Greening in conversation: Katharine Briggs’s Dictionary of Fairies
A Folklore Society Online Talk by
Fee Greening
Tuesday 7 October 2025, 19:00 BST
Fee Greening is an illustrator whose work has been inspired by Gothic fairytale and medieval illuminations. The Folklore Society is delighted to announce the publication of her illustrated edition of Katharine Briggs’s Dictionary of Fairies (Monoray, 11 September 2025). Briggs served as FLS President from 1969 to 1972, and had a great influence on the Society and on folklore studies in general; Greening is the perfect artistic interpreter of Briggs’s knowledge and vision.
In conversation with Sophia Kingshill, who knew Katharine personally in the 1970s, Fee will discuss her creative work, her interest in witchcraft, feminism, and supernatural creatures, and her response to Briggs’s writing, and will show her beautiful pictures. As usual, the online audience will be invited to put questions to the speaker.
Fee Greening is a dip pen and ink illustrator. She graduated from Central St. Martin’s in 2012 and received a masters from the Royal College of Art in 2014. She has worked with Gucci, Hermès, Sisley Paris, Liberty London, Fortnum and Mason, Alexa Chung, Florence and the Machine, Penhaligons, Faber & Faber, Island Records, Sony Music, Tate, The Royal Court Theatre and Martini, and has had profile pieces appear in Vogue, Financial Times HTSI and Harper’s Bazaar. She lives in a cottage in the woods in deepest darkest Dorset with her partner Dan, a guitarist and her dog Patti Sniff a blue eyed merle collie.
