How to Join

We welcome subscriptions from Individuals and Organisations, from the UK and internationally

Membership of The Folklore Society is by subscription to our journal Folklore, published by Taylor & Francis/Informa, in 4 issues per year

Purchase a New Membership

  • Online by credit or debit card: visit Taylor & Francis’s online payment site.
  • Or contact Taylor and Francis Customer Services on +44(0) 208 052 0500 to pay by credit or debit card, or request a pro forma invoice or direct debit mandate form (UK only).

Membership Prices from 1 January 2023

  • Individual: £50 /$90 / €70 (print and digital Folklore, plus pdf or print FLS News)
  • Household: £65 / $105 / €85 (2 members share a print copy of Folklore but both have online access if you contact us with the other person’s email address)
  • Senior £35 /$60 / €50 (print and digital Folklore plus pdf or print FLS News; eligibility: State Pension Age: please contact us with your date of birth)
  • Student/Unwaged/Low Earner: £15 / $25 / €25 (digital only access to Folklore and pdf FLS News; proof of eligibility required; Low Earner = at/below income Tax Threshold)

New Members: our subscription year is January to December so if you join late in the year you can opt to have your payment logged as an advance subscription and defer your membership until the following January: just contact us and we can arrange that.

Newsletters: our members also receive our newsletters FLS News (Feb, June, Nov): contact us to receive the recent issues; the default is now digital, pdf via email, but members can opt to receive print copies of FLS News–just let us know.

Members Only area: shortly after purchasing a new membership you’ll receive an automated email from WordPress@folklore-society.com inviting you to set your password for access to the Members Only area of our website. Here, you’ll find:

  • the Promo Codes for members’ discounts on Eventbrite tickets for our online talks;
  • a link to tandfonline.com to access the digital archive of all issues of our journal Folklore and its earlier titles from 1878 onwards to the most recent issue;
  • a link through to JStor.org for free access to selected folklore journals
  • all back issues of our newsletter FLS News, as downloadable pdfs

Renewing your Membership

Renewal notices are sent in November/December each year. To renew your membership, you’ll need the renewal letter/invoice from TandF/Informa with your PIN number.

Lapsed Memberships: if you didn’t renew for a year, Taylor and Francis will not send you a renewal letter with a PIN to renew for the next year. The simplest thing to do is to join again as a ‘new’ member from January by visiting https://www.tandfonline.com/pricing/journal/rfol20 or calling Taylor and Francis Customer Services on +44(0) 208 052 0500. Please note that if you follow steps to renew your membership after missing a year, your payment will be applied to the last unpaid year, so only do this if you really want to receive the issues of Folklore you missed the previous year.
