Liz Overs in Performance

Hosted by The Folklore Society at 50 Fitzroy Street, London W1T 5BT

Friday 13 December 2024, 19:30

Liz Overs performs songs from her first solo album, Nightjar, joined by guitarist David Tomlins.

A mix of traditional and original songs, Nightjar is fully acoustic, recorded mostly live in the studio with Neill MacColl (Seeger/MacColl), Ben Nicholls (The Full English) and David Tomlins. Cover art is Winter Solstice by Jennifer Binnie.

Her recent history includes writing and singing with Chalk Horse Music, looking at traditional music in Sussex and using local stories as inspiration for songwriting. This included a related monthly radio show focusing on Sussex and the folklore, folk music, rural crafts, ecologists, artists, charities and more found there.

Working solo for the first time last year, she sang The Birds In The Spring for The Nettle Dress documentary, ‘a modern-day fairytale and hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft‘ singing to open for film screenings.

Nightjar… a tangle of words old and new, melodies old and new… air from Liz Overs, earth from Neill MacColl, Ben Nicholls and David Tomlins, fire from The Binnie Sisters and salt water from the Sussex coast.
